Evangelism Team Reports 2025

Each year we send our students on evangelism teams to partner with some of the churches in our association. This year they went to North Belfast Christian Fellowship, Cavan Baptist and Kircubbin Community Church. Read the reports below from each of the teams to find out how they got on.

North Belfast Christian Fellowship

Our Evangelism Team had the privilege of serving with North Belfast Christian Fellowship for this year’s Evangelism Week. The church is based right in the heart of the city, faithfully working in a community that is marked by extreme challenges yet one that is rich with gospel opportunities.

Throughout the week, we were involved in a variety of ministries; from door-to-door and street evangelism to supporting the church’s ongoing outreach through their Parents and Tots group, Addiction Meeting, English classes and their Food Hub. It was encouraging to see how the church’s gospel work extends into every part of daily life, by meeting practical needs whilst also keeping the focus on pointing people to Christ.

We also had the opportunity to help run a ‘Hope Explored’ course, where we welcomed local people to explore the message of Jesus through Luke’s Gospel. It was encouraging to see honest questions asked and to witness the clear, gentle presentation of the hope that Christ offers to all.

One of the key lessons we took away was that the gospel is not limited by difficult circumstances. Even in hard places, God is at work building His church through the quiet faithfulness of His people. Our prayer is that we, and others, would continue to partner with the work happening in North Belfast – supporting, encouraging, and praying.

We are deeply thankful to the fellowship for their warmth, hospitality, and for the example they set in persevering gospel ministry.

Cavan Baptist

Our time working alongside Cavan Baptist Church proved to be an incredibly encouraging and enriching experience. Our week started with arriving for dinner at Ivan (the pastor of the church) and Carol Watson’s home, where we were warmly welcomed for dinner and got the opportunity to learn more about the local context and history of the church which set us up well for a week of evangelistic opportunities.

We gathered on Sunday morning with the church, with a group of us taking part in the praise team which was enjoyed by the congregation. Nathanael McIlveen brought the children’s talk and Samuel Thomson preached an encouraging message from 2 Timothy 4.

The rest of our week mostly consisted of going into schools. Ivan brought some of the students along with him to take an RE class in a few of the local catholic schools where he explained what Baptists believe. It was a good opportunity to explain to the children our beliefs on communion and baptism and there were some very positive responses. Joshua Cunningham had the opportunity to share his testimony in the Royal School and Nathanael brought a presentation on why there is suffering in the world.

We also had the opportunity to bring the Amazing Journey into three primary schools; two in Cavan and one just outside Virginia. We were encouraged by the reception and we pray that the children would sign up to receive free Amazing Journey Bibles.

Throughout the week the team helped out in various kids and youth clubs, where we got the opportunity to share from the Bible and support the members of Cavan who are actively involved in facilitating these clubs.

Please continue to pray for the witness of Cavan Baptist in the town and surrounding areas, and that the Lord would strengthen and empower his church.

Kircubbin Community Church

Our evangelism week ran from Saturday 18th to Friday 24th of October. Kircubbin Community Church (KCC) is a small church in the heart of the Ards Peninsula on the Strangford Lough side. It is a 19 year old church plant from Hamilton Road Baptist Church in Bangor. There were six of us on our team and we were very involved from the get-go. On Sunday our team took part in the morning service leading the praise and preaching the word.

We had prayer and devotions every day with each member of the team taking one. Our devotional reading was John 15:1-17 and our theme was abiding in Christ. We experienced the power of God as He moved and strengthened us through the week. Prayerfully abiding in Christ and in His word is key because as Jesus said without Him, we can do nothing (John 15:5).

Throughout the week we worked with KCC in door-to-door evangelism in the Kircubbin area. We also teamed up with members from Millisle Baptist and worked with them in door-to-door outreach in the Ballywalter area. God answered prayer as He opened doors for us to share the gospel through conversation and literature in both areas which was a blessing. A valuable lesson this taught me personally was how to minister to people by carefully listening to them.

KCC runs their own youth ministry called Whizz Kids and they also work alongside Young Life, another youth ministry in the region. Our team was involved with these ministries as they took place throughout the week ministering into the lives of young people.

The last night of the week was a men’s night held in Phil’s house, who is an elder in the church. We had food, fellowship, a quiz, and testimonies from James Montgomery and me. One young man committed his trust back to the Lord and has been returning with his family over the last few weeks. He was baptised on Sunday 16th November in Strangford Lough with others and it was a great turn out. What a joyful end to our evangelism week, it was amazing to witness God’s saving power at work! All glory be to our God.
